On World Animal Welfare Day, Bangalore Times sheds light on Bengaluru’s numerous animal welfare groups. These dedicated teams, including the pioneering Cubbon Park Canines and Cunningham Canine Squad, have grown to a total of 65 squads in the city. Founders like Priya Chetty-Rajagopal emphasize the crucial role these groups play as advocates for voiceless animals, offering support and guidance to the community.

Members of these squads, such as Mallika Ghosh from the CV Raman Nagar Canine Squad, actively educate the public on handling abandoned or injured dogs by sharing emergency contact numbers. Through their efforts, these groups aim to empower individuals with the necessary knowledge to care for animals in need and address critical issues like neutering and anti-rabies vaccination.

In collaboration with local authorities and animal welfare organizations, these canine squads work tirelessly to create a strong network of animal caregivers and advocates. Despite challenges like the surge in abandoned dogs during the pandemic, volunteers like Parvathi Prabhakar from the Sadashivanagar Canine Squad are making a significant impact by neutering hundreds of dogs to address the issue. Their ultimate goal is to ensure the well-being and safety of every dog in Bengaluru."We are of the opinion that neutering is the sole resolution to this problem," she explains.
